When your muscles ache, which should you apply—heat or cold?

Some pain relief advice from a Maine chiropractor.

YARMOUTH CDP, Maine — When I was in high school and played football, a sign hung in the locker room advising when to apply heat and when to apply cold to injuries. I remember the sign—but I don’t remember what it recommended.

In any case, that advice is now just a tad dated, and I’m happy to report that much more up-to-date guidance is available courtesy of Dr. Allyson Coffin, a chiropractor with Align With Wellness in Yarmouth. From time to time she stops by the 207 studio with tips on everything from exercise to posture, and on her latest visit she went over the basics of ice vs. heat when treating aches and pains brought on by overexertion. Watch this video to see what she has to say. It’s much more helpful than trying to remember what the sign said in your high school locker room.
