"Coach P" returns to Maine to face her former team

BANGOR (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Joanne P. McCallie is responsible for leading the Black Bears to six straight NCAA tournament appearances in the 1990's. But on Thursday night, she'll be trying her best to take the Black Bears down.

McCallie is the current head coach of the Duke Women's Basketball Program. She and her Blue Devils are in Bangor Thursday night to face Maine at the Cross Center.

Sharing the court with McCallie is Amy Vachon, current Maine head coach and former Maine player under coach McCallie in the 90's. McCallie says she follows Vachon's career religiously and is so proud of the success she's found at Maine in such a short amount of time.

"That's what it's all about in basketball," Says McCallie. "Keeping it in the family and supporting programs. We're very proud of what Amy has done."

Thursday's game has special meaning for people on both sides of the ball. Both teams are playing in honor of Stacey Porrini Clingan, a former member of Black Bear basketball team who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year.
