Two dogs die in fire at South Berwick home

No other injuries were reported, the South Berwick Fire Department said.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Officials are investigating a fire in South Berwick that happened Saturday afternoon where two dogs died in the blaze.

Just after noon, crews responded to a building fire on Knight's Pond Road in South Berwick, according to a Facebook post from the South Berwick Fire Department.

A large column of smoke was reportedly visible while crews were en route, and a first alarm was struck. The blaze was brought under control within an hour, according to the fire department.

There was a delay in detection and reporting to 911 due to no one being home at the time of the fire and because the home was located approximately 600 feet from the road, the post stated.

Two dogs died in the fire, according to the fire department. No other injuries were reported.

The South Berwick Fire Department is investigating.
