Mother, stepfather charged with murder of 10-year-old girl

Julio Carrillo, 51, and Sharon Carrillo, 33, were arrested Monday at State Police offices in Bangor.

STOCKTON SPRINGS (NEWS CENTER Maine) — The mother and stepfather of a young girl found dead Sunday afternoon have been charged with murder, state police said Monday.

State police said first responders found 10-year-old Marrissa Kennedy lifeless at a condominium where the family had been staying, a property owned by the mother's parents, according to the Public Safety Department spokesperson.

An adult had called for an ambulance at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday reporting an unresponsive child.

Julio Carrillo, 51, and Sharon Carrillo, 33, were arrested at about 5 p.m. Monday at State Police offices in Bangor after being interviewed by detectives.

They were taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast and will make an initial appearance at Waldo County Superior Court Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.

State police said two other young children present in the home at 7 Harbor View Dr., ages 1 and 2, were taken into custody by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

An autopsy conducted Monday determined the death to be a homicide, the state medical examiner's office said. Detectives were later authorized by the state attorney general's office to make the arrests.
