Man, 62, dies in Madawaska fire; sister flown to hospital

The siblings lived together in the home, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said.

MADAWASKA, Maine — Madawaska Fire and Police Departments responded to a fire at 126 5th Avenue early Friday morning to find two siblings trapped inside their home.

Gary Levesque, 62, died in the fire, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release. Two police officers were able to rescue his sister, 70-year-old Diana Levesque. She was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center before being flown to a hospital in southern Maine, the release stated.

The siblings lived together in the home, Moss said.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident but has already said there is no indication of foul play, according to Moss.

The two police officers who entered the home sustained minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital and released.

Madawaska Rescue and the Frenchville Fire Department assisted on the scene.
