What's the most Instagrammed place in Maine?

(USA TODAY/Natalie DiBlasio and Liam Nee) — From West Quoddy Head to Nubble Light and Mooselookmeguntic Lake to the actual Fort Kent of Fort Kent, Maine has a lot of iconic places to photograph. Did you really visit if you didn't post it on Instagram?

As the year comes to a close, USA TODAY's Natalie DiBlasio took a look at some of the photo-sharing app's most popular things, courtesy of Instagram's 500 million active users. They love filters (the most popular are Clarendon and Gingham) and emojis (the most popular are hearts and the smiley face with heart eyes), and they shared the most on Halloween and 9/11.

The most Instagrammed places in the world are Disney Theme Parks, Universal Studios Theme Parks, Central Park in New York City, Times Square in New York City, the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum and the Las Vegas Strip. But each state has iconic Instagram spots too.

Here are the top five most geo-tagged places in Maine:

1. Old Orchard Beach And Pier

The tourists are gone, the shops boarded up, the roller coasters silent for the season. All is wonderfully haunted now. #emptybeachtownsofknitlandia #notsureabouthappyhour

2. Acadia National Park

🌁🌁⚡⚡Storm clouds rolling in over the Schoodic Peninsula in Acadia National Park. Managed to make it back to my car before the rain hit thankfully😅. I love being outside in bad weather, just not with all my camera stuff💀 ➡www.aybarsgungor.com ____________________________ 📍Acadia National Park, Maine 📸Shot Information: 🔹Nikon D600 🔹Lens: Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 ED VR 🔹Focal Length: 24mm🔹Aperture: f/7.1 🔹Exposure: 1/4 seconds 🔹ISO: 250 🔹6 shot panorama ____________________________ #igersmaine #acadianationalpark #maineisgorgeous #theoutbound#mainetheway @exploremaine #mainething #scenesofnewengland #optoutside #thewaylifeshouldbe #neverstopexploring #mainelife #keepitwild#lifeofadventure #scenesofme #exploretocreate#redditphotography #getoutstayout #visitmaine #letsgosomewhere #discoverearth #roamtheplanet#greatnorthcollective #liveauthentic#thegreatoutdoors #nikonnofilter #liveoutdoors#nakedplanet #earthfocus #welivetoexplore
