The rise and fall—and rise—of Johnson Hall
In its century and a half, Johnson Hall has had its ups and downs. The ground floor was occupied by a number of stores. The auditorium on the third floor featured entertainment, everything from lectures to vaudeville to roller skating (signs on the wall warned skaters not to spit) to a burlesque group known as Satan’s Daughters. From the 1920s to ‘50s, it was a movie theater.
