WATCH: Plane crashes into Rangeley Lake after failed take off

Pilot David Taisey, 69, of Pownal and passenger Mike Koob, 53, of Oquossoc were on board at the time, according to Maine's public safety spokesperson.

RANGELEY, Maine — Two people have minor injuries after a float plane crashed on Rangeley Lake Thursday afternoon.

Chief Mike Bacon of the Rangeley Fire Department told NEWS CENTER Maine the crash happened a little after 3:30 p.m. on August 22 near Russell Cove, located at the northeast point of the lake.

Pilot David Taisey, 69, of Pownal and passenger Mike Koob, 53, of Oquossoc were on board at the time, according to Maine's public safety spokesperson Steve McCausland.

McCausland said the crash happened during take off, when the plane made it about 50 feet into the air and then crashed, coming to rest upside down on the water. The plane was reportedly heading to Bangor. 

McCausland said both men are safe and have been treated for minor injuries and released from a local medical center.

The plane is being towed six miles to Oquossoc and is owned by Acadian Seaplnaes of Rangeley, according to McCausland. 

Maine State Police and the state's Warden Service responded to the scene. McCausland said the FAA will investigate the cause of the crash.
