Maine was ranked seventh in the FCS and will receive a first round bye.

BANGOR (NEWS CENTER Maine)--The Maine Black Bears Gathered at the Seadog Brewery in Bangor this afternoon when they found out their playoff fate.

Maine was ranked seventh in the FCS and will receive a first round bye. They’ll play the winner of this weeks Jacksonville state vs East Tennessee state game on December 1st in Orono.

"I think that was certainly where we wanted to be I thought we would be anywhere from 5 to 8 and we should get seeded and you know we can't control who we play or the schedule all I know is we went 7-1 in the best conference in the country and were the 7th seed now so it's good." Maine Head Coach Joe Harasymiak.

Coach and players alike are not just hoping for a win on December 1st.

"You know someone's gotta come up here on December first and hopefully it's really cold." Harasymiak said.

"We like when the southern teams have to come up to the cold," senior captain Drew Belcher, said.

While they wait to see which southern team will come up to Orono, they'll have some extra time to rest with the bye week.

"We get some rest time, guys get to go home to their families for thanksgiving which is the most important thing." Harasymiak said.

Quarterback Chris Ferguson has been battling an injury and he plans to us this break to get healthy.

"Yeah I think someone just said I'm probably the most excited about it, just to get that time to relax and be the best I can for that game." Ferguson said.

Coach Haraysimiak says they'll workout this week before heading home for the holiday and the real work starts next Monday
