Discussion:

We will begin the day very nice.  We will have mostly sunny skies early, then clouds increase later in the day.  Despite the very nice weather we will be having, our attention will be west of the area, as we will be closely monitoring a severe weather outbreak to our west.

Parts of Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky will have strong storms with damaging winds and tornadoes possible. Central Mississippi has a 4 out of 5 risk for severe storms.

The system will be weaker by the time it makes it into Georgia tonight.  The Storm Prediction Center has much of NW Ga in a level 1 of 5 risk for isolated severe storms.

The main timeline for the metro area will be overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday.  The main threats would be some heavy rain, damaging wind possible and a very low tornado risk.  We also have a level 1 of 5 risk for isolated severe storms early Wednesday.

Tuesday night will we will tracking the rain and storms moving in from the west.  The storms will be weaker once they get here.  However, they will still maintain enough energy to give us some moderate to heavy rain, possible damaging winds and that low tornado threat.

Overnight Tuesday: That storm risk stays with us overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday morning: The drive into work early Wednesday looks soggy.  Plan extra time for your drive in to work or taking the kids to school.

Wednesday afternoon: The system pushes east and shifts the severe threat to south Georgia late morning into afternoon Wednesday.  We will see the clouds clear out and sunshine return Wednesday afternoon.

The moderate to heavy pockets of rain will give some parts of the metro area between a half inch and inch and a half of rain.  Some spots on the southside could see 2-3"+ rain totals before the system leaves.
