PORTLAND, Maine — You didn't have to travel to the Caribbean to experience it. Tuesday's humidity was sky-high and tropical. Dewpoints, a measure of the moisture in the air, spiked to levels rarely seen in northern New England. A front is passing through now, lifting the moisture dense air and dropping heavy rain and downpours on us for a few hours. The wall of water will pass east by the middle of the day and the sun will pop out right behind the rain.
While much of the day will still be muggy and sticky, an afternoon wind shift will initiate a dry air push and relief will begin flowing in. Keep those windows open Wednesday night and let the house air out.
The second half of our week and start of the holiday weekend are looking incredible. We'll have unlimited sunshine with very comfortable conditions. The mornings may remind you a bit of Autumn too. Lows will be a bit chilly, in the 40s, both Friday and Saturday morning.
