Light snow today, next system Thursday

We're in a weather pattern that brings a system through about every three days.

We're in a weather pattern that brings a system through about every three days.

It's not a pattern conducive to major storms, but it's enough to keep us busy.

Southern and western Maine will see light snow today, with minor accumulations of 1-3" possible. Snow showers will bring a coating to 1" to central Maine, little or nothing farther north and east. Temperatures will be in the 20s, so slippery spots can develop on untreated roads.

This moves out this evening, with colder weather returning for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The next system arrives Thursday. Snow looks likely statewide, but depending on the track, a change to rain may happen along the coast after some accumulation.  Tides will be some of the highest of the year, so the coastline will need to be watched for flooding and erosion.

Friday and Saturday look quiet, but milder, with highs in the 30s to near 40.

We're still seven days out, but the third system in this train looks likely to arrive Sunday. A lot can change between now and then, but this may become the most potent of the three. Right now, I'm thinking it'll be a wintry mix, but if a secondary low is able to form and strengthen, more snow would come into play. We'll keep an eye on it for you.
