PORTLAND, Maine — We are in the warm season and with it comes thunderstorms. The threat will run pretty high early this afternoon, as a cold front marches through the state.
A little sunshine will develop later this morning spiking temps and humidity. The front will provide lift and a broken line of storms will initiate.
A lot of thunderstorm outbreaks are late in the day for Maine, but this round has an earlier focus.

By late morning, storms will reach the Western Maine Mountains. Lightning and heavy rain are likely.

That line will work through the foothills and into central Maine around noon. They'll encounter a little sun, adding some fuel to them. Healthy updrafts may form and more potent cells are possible, capable of damaging wind gusts.

The strong storm threat will shift off the coast and east into Canada by late afternoon, setting up a pretty sweet Friday evening. I hope you get to enjoy it.
