MAINE, USA — It's not a big storm but the timing isn't good. Rain and snow will fall during the morning commute and through the middle of the day. Amounts will be kept in check, only a couple of manageable inches are expected away from the coast.
The accumulation along the coast has already ended, a coating fell. Now we are looking at mostly rain. That rain / snow line has worked inland a few miles too.
The problem with the changeover to rain, inland surface temps are still below freezing so roads, sidewalks, decks, etc. are icing over. Take it easy, these next few hours will be challenging for commuters...slushy and icy near the coast and snowy inland.
All precipitation will come to an end very early in the afternoon and temps will climb above freezing so road conditions will be greatly improved by then.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, it appears active. Another system brushes the coast with some rain and snow showers tomorrow afternoon. A much larger, more impactful storm threatens us Thursday with several inches of snow before a transition to ice and rain. More school delays and cancellations will be possible.
