The cold has been intense over the few days, but it will ease a bit as we head into the middle of the week.  Much of the week will be snow-less and storm-free until we head into the weekend.

Our next chance for accumulating snow is on Friday when warm air advection and a weak surface low induce light snow across the area.  The pattern only favors a couple of inches, but enough to plow and make for slippery travel through the day.

We are overdue for a big snowstorm.  The largest storm this season in Portland was 8.3” back on November 19 & 20.  The largest in Bangor was just 6.8” over the same two days.  That may change this weekend.  Models have been hinting at a bigger storm system with Gulf of Mexico moisture, spreading north on Sunday into a fresh, frigid airmass from Central Canada.  It will take a few days to get more specific but the ingredients are there for the largest snow storm of this Winter.  We’ll see…
