It's the time of year in the Central and San Joaquin Valley where the likelihood of "Tule Fog" forming is pretty high.

We have days of rainfall followed by cold, winter nights with very little wind. These conditions are prime for Tule Fog development. These conditions occur from December 1 to March 31. Most importantly, fog is the leading cause of weather-related accidents in California.

So, here are some things you need to know when driving in thick fog.

  1. Turn on your headlights to make sure your rear lights are on, as well.
  2. Use your low beams. Visibility can change rapidly.
  3. You might wanna lower your driver's side window. That way you can at least hear any traffic accidents that may be happening ahead or around you.
  4. Reduce your speed and watch your speedometer. The fog can give the illusion of slow motion.
