Lacing up for Coastal Maine's first significant snowstorm

Coastal Maine is gearing up for it's first significant snowstorm. The snow is expected to start falling Thursday night and last until Friday afternoon. Cities and towns in Maine spent the day getting plow trucks ready and Mainer's found time to prepare as well.

(NEWS CENTER Maien)-- Coastal Maine is preparing for it's first significant snowstorm of the season. The snow is expected to start falling Thursday night and last until Friday afternoon.

Cities and towns in Maine spent the day getting the plow trucks ready and many people were out searching for the one thing every Mainer needs before the snow flys: boots.

NEWS CENTER Maine stopped by Reny's in Topsham to see that the footwear section was where all the action was.

"I've been listening to the news and weather and I know we have a storm coming so I'm ready."

Ready--once Tamara Tyler of Westport Island finds the blue boots she loves in a size 8. "You can't have cold feet."

John Lucas of Bowdoin has the trick for that. "You need the ones with the liners in them because it's pretty cold"

Cold---yes---but snow--- so soon?

Lucas says "the winter is creeping up a lot faster than I ever imagined it was."

He's hoping it's not a sign of things to come.

"I'm scared. Lucas laughed. "I'm hoping it's not, but it's not looking promising."

Pete Milligan of Brunswick agrees. "It's a little too early. I need another month."

But knowing he doesn't have another month...or boots...Milligan is out looking for some.

"I had these (same kind of) boots when I was a kid, had them for 20 years, I'm going back. I'm not plugging the boots" Milligan laughs.

But he is recommending how to handle the Friday morning commute. "Don't drive, stay home and play in the snow." "Except for coming to Reny's" an employee shouted out. "Yes" Milligan laughed, "Come walk to Renys in your new boots."

Boots, gloves and as mom always says....don't forget your hat!
