PORTLAND, Maine — A fireball lit up the night sky over New England Friday.
It occurred around 11:15 p.m., spotted moving from southeast to northwest. The American Meteor Society received at least 85 reports of sightings, from New Brunswick to New Jersey.
The meteor's likely path was over central Maine.
One spotter from North Conway, NH wrote to the AMS that the meteor "passed our windows overlooking east facing edge of North Conway, NH valley."
Another observer from Cumberland wrote "it reminded me of a shooting star, but much faster and much brighter. Left me speechless."
It was caught on a webcam in Portsmouth, NH.
Social media was also lit up with news about the possible meteor.
