Could it hit 100 degrees this weekend? GUTNER BLOG

Triple H's will surge back in tomorrow and near record breaking heat is expected over the weekend.

The last time the temp hit 100 in Maine was back in 2011.  I remember that day well.  I was working in Boston and doing live weather hits from Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, MA.  The temp hit 103, the second hottest day ever for the Boston area.  The heat was unlike anything I had ever felt.  We had a strong NW wind, a dry wind, so the heat was dessert-like, like what you'd feel in Las Vegas in the middle of the Summer.

That wind direction was key, and what I think we lack over the weekend here in Maine to push our temps above 95.  I'm not saying it can't happen.  I just think without a true dehumidifying downslope, it will be a challenge.

Regardless, the heat this weekend is going to be rough and downright dangerous for folks with respiratory ailments and the elderly.  Heat Index values or feels-like temperatures on Saturday are going to be around 100 degrees. Do yourself a favor and stay in air conditioning or in the water as much as possible.

Thunderstorms, Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, will break the heat and humidity for good.  Next week looks much better and long term outlooks do not signal severe heat through the rest of the month.
