Old Town man killed in Bangor crash after hitting guardrail on I-95 south

Anthony Monroe, Sr, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash, police say.

BANGOR, Maine — An Old Town man was killed early Friday morning in a crash on I-95 south in Bangor.

Police say Anthony Monroe, Sr., 39, was traveling south when he struck a guardrail near the Exit 185 off-ramp of Broadway Street. The vehicle then traveled across the road and hit the concrete barrier in the median. 

Monroe, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Maine State Police troopers responded to the crash at approximately 3:37 a.m. There were no other vehicles involved in the incident. 

The Maine State Police was assisted by the Bangor Police Department and the Bangor Fire Department.

A section of the interstate was closed for a time while crews cleaned up the crash.
