Bangor-based artist bringing Patriots from the field to canvas

Jim Lagasse is a self-taught artist and a life-long New England sports fan. He didn't pick up a paint brush until college but since then has started a small business online selling his original paintings and prints of his favorite sports moments and players.

BANGOR (NEWS CENTER Maine) - On any given night you can find Jim Lagasse sitting in his small in home art studio, working on one of his water color creations.

"Probably seven or eight years ago I started working with water colors," said Lagasse. "A lof of it is trial and error. And a lot of the time the water runs and you don't knw where it is going to go."

Lagasse attended the University of Maine in Fort Kent, when he decided to take an art class. From there, his love for painting grew.

"Started off with one art class," said Lagasse. "I got pretty good with oils and acrylics."

Along with painting, Lagasse's other passion is New England sports. A life-long fan, about 15 years ago he started painting bringing his favorite players and moments from the field to the canvas.

"I actually started off with the Red Sox when the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004." said Lagasse. "I started painting some of those paintings. Just with Ortiz and Pedroia and all that."

Since then some of his favorite subjects have been Tom Brady, Gronk, and Fenway among many others.

Lagasse has an Etsy page where he has almost 300 original paintings and prints for sale and has sent them all over the world. Along with his sports images he also works on a number of Maine landscapes.

"I do a lot of birch tree paintings because we see them everyday in Maine and people that buy my paintings are not from Maine and they like to see the landscape."

For now, Lagasse has his eyes set on the Patriots' playoff run.

"I think this week they are going to have their hands full with Jacksonville," said Lagasse.
