ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A huge weight was lifted off of the shoulders of redshirt sophomore quarterback Dan Collins on Thursday night when he was told he would be starting against Norfolk State.
After a preseason-long quarterback battle, the UMaine coaching staff needed a few more practices to decide on who its number one guy would be.
On Thursday night, head coach Jack Cosgrove made the official decision during his radio show.
Collins says he is excited for the opportunity and that he thanked Cosgrove for believing in him.
The South Jersey native knows he will have a tough task at hand in his first collegiate start. Norfolk State's defense is returning nine starters from last season.
Kick-off is set for 6:00 PM Saturday night at Alfond Stadium.
