CHARLOTTE, NC - MARCH 18: Robert Williams #44 of the Texas A&M Aggies reacts against the North Carolina Tar Heels during the second round of the 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Spectrum Center on March 18, 2018 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

NEW YORK (Celtics Wire) — The Boston Celtics used the 27th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft to select former Texas A&M standout Robert Williams III. The springy big man was expected to be selected earlier in the first round, but ultimately fell to Boston.

Williams is an elite-level athlete who projects as a dangerous, explosive roll man and potential rim protector with surprisingly quick feet on the perimeter. He averaged 10.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game, while posting a 63.2% effective field goal percentage, in his sophomore campaign with the Aggies.

Williams is currently a non-shooter, and needs to refine his defensive instincts, but for the Celtics to land a player of his caliber at 27 is a major victory.
