Al Horford has been conspicuous by his absence, though the Celtics have managed to continue their winning ways without him.

On Wednesday night, Boston will be pursuing its seventh consecutive win, but they’ll do so without Horford, who will miss his third straight game and fifth of the season.

“Al’s gonna be probably a few games,” head coach Brad Stevens said when asked to provide an update on when Horford will return to the lineup.

“The exact diagnosis is patellofemoral pain syndrome.”

Earlier, the Celtics identified his ailment as tendinitis, and although Stevens gave a more specific diagnosis, he didn’t sound as though he was overly concerned about Horford’s long-term health prognosis.

“He’s gonna be out a little bit, but not too long, and just to strengthen him,” Stevens said.

“Similar to [Marcus] Morris last year, [we want to] make sure that he feels great instead of going back and forth with this.”

At this point, Daniel Theis and Aron Baynes are each possibilities to start in Horford’s stead.
