BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- 99-year-old,Jessie White of Belfast received her diploma 75 years later in a special Beal College graduation ceremony. A troublesome transcript fee of $5 is the only thing that stopped Jessie White from graduating in 1939 with a degree in bookkeeping. Jessie doesn't have to worry about that debt anymore because it's been paid off personally by Bangor, Maine's Beal College President, Allen Stehle.

Stehle hosted a special graduation ceremony for Jessie on Friday, so family and friends could watch her collect that hard-earned diploma after 75 years. Jessie got $500 from her uncle to use toward her degree and no matter the weather conditions she walked to school on crutches because she suffered from polio as a child.

"If you have a dream pursue it and stick with it because no matter how many negative predictions people throw at you don't listen to them because people predicted I'd never do anything. Never walk. Never go to school."

And Jessie proved those people wrong. She said never stop learning because when you do that's when you grow old, so she plans on learning something new daily.
