Very humid, severe storm risk today | Breton Blog

Heat index in the 90s for some

It's another damp morning, but a warm front is crossing through the state, bringing higher humidity and a very warm airmass in.

A trailing cold front will bring a risk for storms later today, some of which may become severe.

Today's weather is really all about location.

Clouds and fog in western Maine will give way to hazy sun. In eastern Maine, clouds and showers will linger through late morning.

It'll heat up in western Maine with highs between 85 and 90, combined with high humidity the heat index will be in the 90s near the New Hampshire border.

In eastern Maine, some sun breaks out this afternoon. It will be cooler with temperatures along the Downeast coast only in the 70s, Bangor will be around 80.

Storms will fire up in the mountains around 3 p.m., moving east during the late afternoon and early evening. Some of the storms can become severe with damaging wind gusts. They will be hit or miss, and it seems the highest chance is in central Maine.

All of Maine is under the Storm Prediction Center's severe weather risk today.

It's worth noting the SPC has highlighted Maine in the 2% -- or very low but not zero -- risk for a tornado today.  That's something we'll keep an eye on too, and good reason to have a way to get warnings this afternoon.

The cold front moves through overnight and the humidity drops, lows in the upper 50s north to mid 60s south.

Tuesday looks great, in my opinion it will be the best day of the week with sunshine, lower humidity and highs in the mid 80s.
