FALMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- In this time of giving, this week's Buddy to Buddy story focuses on a program that is all about it.

"Stitch Out Cancer" encourages people to knit a pink scarf in honor of someone they know who has been touched by cancer, and then donate it to the participants in the Tri-For-A Cure. The goal is to have 2,500 scarves by the time of the Tri -For-A-Cure on July 26 .

"She Jams" is the athletic training organization behind the Tri-For-A-Cure.

Many of the founders have run the Boston Marathon ... and last year at the race, they each were given a blue and gold scarf, knitted by people determined to keep Boston Strong. So, they wanted to bring that same feeling to the women who work hard to train and raise money for the Tri-For-A Cure, which supports breast cancer programs.

There are monthly drop-offs of scarves at Couleur Collection in Falmouth. At the first drop off last week, 50 scarves were collected.

If you'd like to help knit scarves in memory or in honor of someone you know who has been touched by cancer, you can check out the "Stitch Out Cancer" Facebook page or visit She Jams' website by clicking here.
