6 Who Care: Mary Ann McLean

It takes a special soul to comfort and care for those who are in their final stages of life. Mary Ann McLean has chosen to be the one to hold the hand of many as they pass on.

For 15 years, Mary Ann has been a hospice volunteer with VNA Home Health Hospice. She offers assistance, companionship, emotional support, transportation, and respite care. Mary Ann’s graceful presence is a calming force when she visits with patients several times a week, making sure they are comfortable and not alone as they are actively dying.

“As soon as I met Mary Ann, I knew that she was a Godsend,” says Patty B., a VNA Home Health Hospice client whose husband had Parkinson’s disease.

The loving support that Mary Ann gives to others allows her to comfort them in their time of need.
