For the past 18 years, Furniture Friends has helped to supply basic household furniture to clients in the Greater Portland area who lack the financial resources to furnish a residence.
Clients and their families manage a variety of challenges, such as poverty, mental illness, physical disabilities, mental disabilities and abuse. Thanks to Furniture Friends, many new Americans and veterans now have a place to turn to help.
In 2015, 319 households were served; 860 individuals now have a safe and stable household equipped with the necessities needed to move forward in life. Donations are welcomed from individuals, as well as hotels, furniture stores, and retirement communities, seeking a new home for their gently used furniture.
Furniture Friends’ 200 plus volunteers have logged 2,000 hours collecting and distributing gently used furniture from donors and helping transform houses into homes.
