ORONO, Maine — On Wednesday, a group of volunteers were out replacing sections of the Orono Bog Boardwalk.
The volunteers replaced five old hemlock sections with new plastic composite. The director of the bog boardwalk says the new section should last more than 30 years.
The renovation began in 2014 and will be completed soon.
"We just put in the last section that we can and we have one more to go. It has to be specially made because it's a different size than the eight-foot section so that won't be here for the end of June. However, will we will be able to open I just don't have a good day right now it'll be soon." Says Jim Bird, Director of Orono Bog Boardwalk
Since opening in 2002, Bird says they have received more than four hundred thousand visitors to the boardwalk.
