ELLSWORTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — A woman survived being shot in the head Saturday night in Ellsworth.
Police said the 46-year-old woman was visiting the home of Lawrence Romer, 47, when his handgun accidently went off just before 5 p.m.
They said the bullet grazed the woman's head but did not pierce her skull.
She was treated and released from the hospital.
The police chief said both the woman and Romer told investigators the shooting was Romer was arrested on charges of reckless conduct and aggravated assault.
The woman was initially transported to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, then airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
