Wiscasset Schools closed Thursday due to threat

The school department said just after noon Wednesday that officials had identified the person responsible for the threat, and that school would resume on Friday.

WISCASSET, Maine — Wiscasset schools will reopen on Friday after officials identified the person who wrote a potential threat on a bathroom wall.

The Wiscasset School Department closed Thursday, October 24, due to the threat at the Wiscasset Middle High School.

Just after 12 p.m., Stacey Souza, administrative assistant at the school department, wrote on the department's website

The Wiscasset Newspaper reported that Wiscasset Police Chief Larry Hesseltine had confirmed that a male student at the school had confessed to making the threat. He was not arrested, the paper reported.

The Wiscasset School Department will be closed today, October 24, 2019 due to a written potential threat on a bathroom wall at WMHS. School officials and local law enforcement continue to investigate the credibility of this possible threat. As a precautionary measure to assure all student and staff safety, a decision has been made to close the schools.

A call to Hesseltine was not immediately returned.
