TOPSHAM (NEWS CENTER Maine) — Doctors in Boston are trying to save a Wiscasset toddler's eyes after a dog attacked her.
Lt. Fred Dunn says the 18-month-old toddler was at her babysitter's home when she placed her hand on the back of the dog and he turned around and bit her face.
The toddler was taken by Life Flight to Tufts Medical Center.
Dunn said the 8-year-old boxer had been around the toddler since she was a newborn and had no history of aggressive behavior.
The attack happened on Raymond Road around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10.
Dunn said while the toddler's injuries are not life-threatening, they are very severe and he is not sure if her eyes can be saved.
The dog is being quarantined at Coastal Humane Society, but police say the owner will most likely have the pet put down.
