KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — A boat created by high school students from Kennebunk just washed ashore in Scotland.

Kids from the alternative learning program launched the aptly named "Little Boat that Could" from Georges Bank on December 29th.

Powered by only wind, the 5 foot long boat sailed across the Atlantic Ocean for 168 days before landing on a beach in Scotland over the weekend.

The boat was filled with sensors so students could track its progress and learn more about the ocean.

The couple that discovered the washed up vessel contacted the Coast Guard, and officials were able to identify where the came from thanks to plenty of decals from Kennebunk businesses.

The boat was given to a school in Scotland that plans to keep the voyage going.

So far, the boat has sailed about 2,800 miles.
