WARREN, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — Two teens were injured, one seriously, in a one-car accident in Warren Tuesday afternoon.

According to Knox County Sheriff's Office, both juveniles were extricated from the vehicle and transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

The 17-year-old driver, police say, is listed in critical condition after sustaining serious life-threatening injuries while the 16-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

Police say speed and driver inexperience were both factors in the crash.

According to police, the vehicle was traveling down northbound on Finntown Road when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, slid off and sideswiped a large tree. They say the car became airborne and part of its roof was crushed.

Names were not released due to the ages of the occupants.

Knox County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by Warren Fire, Warren Rescue and Waldoboro EMS.
