Slippery travel expected Sunday morning | Maine Weather Blog

Much like last Sunday morning, a mix of rain, ice and snow will cause slippery travel this Sunday morning.

Much like last Sunday morning, a mix of rain, ice and snow will cause slippery travel this Sunday morning.

The precipitation will move into western Maine between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. There could be some brief mixing with sleet or wet snow near the coast, but it should quickly change to rain near the water.

Farther inland, colder air will hang on for a longer period of time. Slippery travel is likely away from the immediate coast.

The precipitation will overspread central Maine between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m., eastern Maine between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.

A mix of snow and ice will continue with a gradual change to rain during the morning. It may snow for much of the morning along and north of Route 2 before any change to rain happens.

The rain may fall heavily from late morning through the afternoon in central and southern Maine, before tapering late day.

1 to 3 inches of snow is expected in the foothills and mountains, with a light glaze of ice on top. 3 to 5 inches of snow expected in northern Maine. After a light coating of snow or ice early in the day, an inch of rain is possible in southern and central Maine.
