SPRINGVALE (NEWS CENTER Maine) — A Sanford man drowned in the Mousam River Thursday despite efforts by a lifeguard and good Samaritans to save his life.
Sixty-four-year-old Michael Lancaster was swimming at the Springvale recreation area when Sanford Police say he became distressed and called out for help.
Other beach-goers pulled Lancaster out of the water and the lifeguard on duty administered CPR.
The Sanford Fire Dept. arrived and continued to try to resuscitate Lancaster but were unable. Lancaster was pronounced dead at the scene.
