Protection order bill passed unanimously by committee

LD 496 was tabled last month for more work on the bill. On Wednesday, the redrafted bill was passed unanimously by the Maine judiciary committee.

AUGUSTA, Maine — LD 496 was proposed after a Hampden woman's death.

Court documents say Renee Clark Henneberry was killed by her brother-in-law, Phillip last summer. The killing comes after Renee was denied a protection order against Phillip.

The bill was tabled by the Maine judiciary committee last month and Renee's attorney told NEWS CENTER Maine that he will be working with a court representative, as well as the Maine Coalition on Domestic Violence, to adjust it to increase the chances it will be approved.
