PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — A male was taken to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after being shot Tuesday night, and the suspect is still on the run, police say.
As of midnight, Lieutenant Robert Martin of the Portland Police Department said the victim was in surgery and considered to be in critical condition.
Martin said the call came in around 10:12 PM.
The shooting happened across from the Preble Street Shelter near the Portland Public Market garage.
Police say the suspect fled on foot, and was last scene leaving the scene heading south on Preble Street towards Cumberland Ave.
They also said it was likely the two subjects knew one another - and for that reason, they do not believe there is any threat to the public.
The suspect is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, with long brown hair.
Police plan to release the name of the victim soon.
Portland Police say if you have any information, to call them at 207-874-8575.
