New baby, new place; Redesigned maternity ward set to open at EMMC

It is likely the most magical moment in a parent's life, becoming a parent. Now you can do it in a new space at EMMC.

BANGOR (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Eastern Maine Medical Center is putting the final touches on its redesigned maternity ward that is set to open next week.

The ward has seven delivery rooms and 25 new postpartum rooms all featuring the latest technology and designed to be a single patient room to increase privacy and help the new family bond.

“This just gives home support the families need to start a new life. There’s a lot efficiency, technologies, space and just restful and calmness of the environment It speaks to the intimacy for the development of the patients and the family.” Say Aida Poblador-Stevens is the associate vice president of Patient Care Services, Women’s and Children’s.

EMMC says they welcome an average of 1,600 babies each year.

The new maternity ward will open by May 25.
