MERCER, Maine — The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office says two people from Old Town are in the hospital after crashing a motorcycle in Mercer on Sunday. The crash happened around 4 p.m. on Sunday on Route 2 in Mercer in the vicinity of the Rome Road intersection.

The driver was identified as Randy Moran, 32, of Old Town. Megan Donelan, 36, also of Old Town was riding on the motorcycle with Moran at the time of the crash. Neither were wearing helmets, police say.

Police say Moran was heading east on his 2004 Honda VTX when he lost control and the rear tire blew out, causing them to drive into a ditch. Moran and Donelan were ejected.

Moran was taken by ambulance to a waiting Life Flight helicopter from Bangor to Eastern Maine Medical Center where he was treated for possible internal injuries along with a shoulder injury.  Donelan was transported by ambulance to Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan for possible internal injuries.

Police say the crash is still under investigation, but that speed and alcohol weren’t contributing factors in the crash.
