Mother, daughter killed in head-on crash in Casco

Police said all three people involved in the crash had to be extricated from their vehicles.

CASCO (NEWS CENTER Maine) — A mother and daughter from Bridgton were killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on crash along Route 302 in Casco.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said a Jeep driven by Jamie Mantz, 53, crossed the center line near Cold Springs Road for unknown reasons and hit an SUV head-on.

Mantz' 80-year-old mother Carol Storm was a passenger in the Jeep.

Both Mantz and Storm were killed in the collision.

Police said the driver of the SUV, 26-year-old Austin Wood, of Naples, was seriously hurt. He was taken to Maine Medical Center with serious head and leg injuries.

Wood was in critical care as of late Tuesday night, the sheriff's office said.

Police said Mantz, Storm and Wood all had to be extricated from their vehicles.

Traffic in that area of Route 302 was shut down for about four hours.
