PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Wearing a bit of foundation is part of Lee Nelson's job as a TV news anchor. But there was a time when his makeup regimen might have been a lot more extensive.
Lee was a student in London in the early 1980s at the height of Boy George's fame. As the lead singer of Culture Club, Boy George had huge hits with "Karma Chameleon" and "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" Not only did Boy George get attention for his voice but also his look. His heavy makeup, teased hair and flamboyant clothes were widely imitated. Even Lee admits to getting caught up in the craze.
Xander Nelson pried those admissions out of his father during the weekly Rave 'N' Rage music segment on the MORNING REPORT. The idea of seeing his strait-laced dad decked out in mascara and lip liner had Xander begging for pictures. But Lee disappointed him by denying that any such pictures exist. Ah, those happy days before cell phone cameras!
Their trip down memory lane started when Xander mentioned that Boy George was celebrating his 57th birthday on June 14, 2018. Thankfully, Xander had already finished his rundown of upcoming musical performances before their discussion got hopelessly sidetracked. Scroll down to see his picks for the week.
