DEXTER, Maine — A herd of cows is safely off the road in Dexter thanks to law enforcement.

Maine State Police said one of its trooper sergeants, Bernie Brunette, spotted several "fugitives from justice" Tuesday on Zions Hill Road.

A joint effort ensued, police said, which included Sgt. Brunette, Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle and Sgt. Gary Morin, and people that were nearby.

The group of impromptu drovers was able to get the animals home.
