SACO (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Multiple agencies searched the Saco River Saturday night for a man who went several hours without contacting his family and was eventually found safe.

Police said 38-year-old Tony Lagrange left his home to go to the Saco River to fish on Saturday. When he did not return by late afternoon, and had not made any contact with his family, relatives reported him missing.

Police said Lagrange had fallen into the river in the past.

Saco Police checked several areas along the river and found his vehicle on Front Street, along with Lagrange's shoes and fishing equipment, but they could not find him in the area.

Multiple agencies, including Saco Police, a K9 team from the Maine State Police, the Maine Marine Patrol, and the Saco and Biddeford Fire Departments all searched the Saco River. United States Coast Guard assets were also en route with air support.

Police said during the search, Lagrange was dropped off at his home by a friend. Officers confirmed he was home and safe, and called off the search.

"The Saco Police Department would like to remind everyone to be safe in and around water recreation areas and keep family informed of your whereabouts," deputy chief Jack Clements wrote in a press release.
