BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- More than 200 employees working at L.L. Bean Bangor Call Center are facing uncertain futures. The outdoor retailers announcing it will close the call center in 2016. Since May 2005, L.L. Bean has made Bangor home for one of its three call centers. These employees will get the option to transfer to an L.L. Bean facility they own in Portland or Lewiston or be an at home agent. L.L. Bean leases this building from City of Bangor, the company pays about $19,500 a month to lease and close to $54,000 in taxes this fiscal year.

Director of Community and Economic Development, Tanya Emery said the city is on a tight budget and they're planning their latest marketing campaign.

"We are grateful we have a 24-month head start on replacing those tenants because anytime a city building loses a tenant the lease revenue is lost. And we certainly feel that impact with budgets as tight as they are at the municipal level for the past few years, every dollar counts."

Now, L.L. Bean is hiring seasonal employees as a customer agent in Bangor, Lewiston and Portland. Also, they're looking to hire temporary people in their Freeport retail store.
