Lewiston High School lifts lockdown following nearby police search

***UPDATE*** The Lewiston superintendent announced through his Facebook account that school operations returned to normal around 11 a.m. after police gave the all-clear.

LEWISTON (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- The effects of a search by Lewiston Police are being felt at Lewiston High School.

Superintendent of School Bill Webster said the school went into lockdown Monday morning on the advice of police.

Nothing was amiss on school ground, according to Webster. He said police recommended caution as they check the area.

Police said a rumor appears to be the impetus for their response, but they are taking no chances.
