LEWISTON, Maine — A Lewiston woman was shocked when her home project behind her house turned into a recovery of bones Monday.

She said Lewiston police gathered the items and will have it sent away to be tested

“There was also a sock, other bones, and parts of a shoe," Vincent said. "We called the police department and they sent out an officer and a forensic person, but they couldn't make out if the bones were an animal or human.”

She said Lewiston police gathered the items and will have it sent away to be tested.

In a Facebook post, Vincent said she was told that where the bones are rounded it's likely to be human but to keep an open mind as it may just be legitimate trash or a bear. They said a bear's bones are similar to humans bones where they are big and rounded.

She said they ruled out it being a deer and other smaller animals due to the size and shapes of the bones.
