PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- A renovated co-working space in Portland has a waiting list to get in. It's been open for about 5 -years and its owner's say it is powered on creativity.

The Engine Room in the Old Port houses 16 start-ups and small businesses. It has different memberships from a floater, half bay and a full open-concept desk area.

The owners, Yona Belfort, Chuck Martin and a third partner, saw a need for space for their own businesses, but did not need a large office space. They converted an old dairy processing plant, with a rustic warehouse look, to inspire a cozy and creative environment.

The Engine Room offers WiFi, private phone booths and a conference center that can be booked online. There are no set hours and it is open 24/7 for members to come go as they please.
