First responders use helicopter to help rescue injured hiker from Tumbledown Mountain

Forest Rangers landed a helicopter on a rocky slope, where first responders loaded the hiker.

WELD, MAINE, Maine — Maine Forest Rangers rescued an injured hiker on Tumbledown Mountain on Sunday.

Rangers were called to assist game wardens, NorthStar EMS, and other Franklin County first responders. They say the incident happened around 2 p.m. in Township 6 - North of Weld Township.

Chief Ranger Pilot John Crowley flew a helicopter, Ranger 955, from the Rangers' Augusta headquarters to the place where the hiker was injured. He landed it on a rocky slope, where first responders loaded the patient. The pilot then flew them to a waiting ambulance.

The hiker's injuries are not considered life-threatening.
